Written by Robert Lind - Owner of Timberlind Auctions
I was born and raised on a mixed farm at Buck Creek near Drayton Valley. My wife Carol and I have raised Purebred Simmental Cattle for over 20 years.
We have our annual bull sale right at our Timberlind Auction yardsite at Buck Creek in February. From 1996 - 2002 I served as a Director and President of the Alberta Simmental Association. From 2002 - 2005 I was a Director on the Canadian Simmental Association.
In 1978 I started riding in the rodeos, traveling all around Alberta and eventually quit riding bulls in 1998 when I decided I wanted to become an auctioneer.
I graduated from the Western Canadian School of Auctioneering in Calgary on October 3, 1998. At that time the school was owned by Larry Graham. I was voted as President of the class. I joined the Alberta Auctioneer's Association in January of 1999 where I competed and won the Tyro contest. I was also voted on as a Director of the Association at the meeting and as of 2010 I am now the President of the Association.
We had our first machinery consignment sale on the farm May Long Weekend in 1999 and the next on September Long Weekend. Since then we have made them annual sales. Last spring was the largest ever with just under 400 consignors and just under 6,000 people attended. We have developed the sale yard into a permanent facility. We also have about 20 farm sales around the Drayton Valley area annually.
From October to March in the farm sale off season I work with Transcon Livestock. They manage Purebred Simmental sales selling bulls in the spring and females in the fall. I have worked these sales across Canada, from Abbotsford, British Columbia to Chester Basin, Nova Scotia and many sales in between, but mostly in Alberta.
I really enjoy the auction business and love to meet so many great people in many different industries.
